Reported on NOLA.com and much rumored for weeks now, LSU landed a huge commitment today by way of Mansfield, Texas. Ed Paris is a consensus 5-star prospect and one of the top safeties in the country. He played corner as a Junior and safety as a sophomore. He's a big kid, 6'1-6'2, around 200 pounds. But he runs exceptionally well. He really has the ability to be a true two-way safety. Toss another feather in the cap of Thomas McGaughey.
As a prospect, he's probably better than either Craig Loston or Eric Reid coming out. He's the type of guy that could probably play corner in a pinch, if you needed him to. But he will come to LSU as a safety.
The kid is a dynamic talent. Explosive, aggressive, instinctive... the whole package. Here's some highlights:
Here's an interview he did, I think you all will enjoy:
Well spoken, bright kid that really plays with a lot of energy and swagger. I love that in a safety. He's got the frame to add more good weight and will probably play in that 215 range much like Eric Reid.
I think he carries a bit higher upside than Reid or Loston did coming in. Both were good athletes. I think Paris is a great one. His on the field output matches that athleticism as well. He will have a great chance to play early for us, especially with Loston graduating next season.
The 2014 class is already off to an outstanding start. They've locked up the nation's no. 1 TE, Jacory Washington. They have a strong OG in Will Clapp. Two good DBs in Chris Hardeman and Devin Voorhies. And a speedy, albeit somewhat unknown LB Donnie Alexander.
There's still a lot in play, but don't be shocked if LSU receives more good news later this week from another 5-star prospect. It's been stated multiple times, but the 2014 haul really has the potential to be a legendary class.
