Leonard Fournette Named SEC Freshman of the Week
BATON ROUGE – LSU running back Leonard Fournette earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors on Monday for his performance in the Tigers’ win over Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night in College Station. Fournette, a native of New Orleans, rushed for a career-high 146 yards and a touchdown in LSU’s 23-17 win over the Aggies. Fournette’s 22-yard touchdown run where he barreled over a Texas A&M defender earned the No. 1 play on ESPN’s SportsCenter that day. Fournette averaged 7.7 yards a carry and led an LSU rushing attack that racked up 384 yards on the ground against the Aggies, the most for the Tigers in an SEC game since rolling up 400 yards in a win over Kentucky in 1997. The honor marks the third time that Fournette has been recognized this year as the SEC Freshman of the Week. He was also cited by the league as the rookie of the week in wins over Florida and Ole Miss. For the year, Fournette has accumulated 891 rushing yards to go along with eight touchdowns.
