Some of the biggest out-of-state names will be visiting LSU this weekend for their official visits just before the dead period.
We will start with the current LSU commit Hanner Shipley. He is obviously a solid lock for LSU, but will be taking his official this weekend anyways. Shipley should be enrolling early in January.
The next visitor is the current Alabama commit Daylon Charlot. He will be hosted by John Diarse and Kenny Hilliard (Hilliard and Charlot are both from Patterson). LSU has been pursuing his commitment for a long time now and are slowly gaining ground, but I am not sure it will be enough to lure him away from Alabama.
Next up are the offensive linemen out of Florida, Jalen Merrick and Martez Ivey. Both are likely to stay in Florida, especially Merrick who is expected to commit soon, but Ivey is one of my favorite recruits in the entire class. He was/is considered a heavy lean to Florida, but with Muschamp out we could see a couple schools (including LSU) get in the mix late. Merrick will be hosted by Garrett Brumfield and Ivey will be hosted by Jerald Hawkins, but Ivey will be the lone recruit arriving on Saturday and staying through Monday so he should be the center of attention.
Sticking with the offensive line, George Brown Jr. is a current Florida commitment that could be flipping relatively soon to LSU. He is capable of playing o-line or d-line, but coach Grimes really likes him as an offensive tackle and sees him as an extremely underrated 3-star recruit. He will be hosted by K.J. Malone, but Grimes could lock him up with a solid visit this weekend.
Now we will look at a tight-end recruit that will be a tough flip in Will Gragg. The current Arkansas commit out of Dumas, Arkansas had LSU in his top 3 just a few months ago, but eventually decided to stay home. He will be hosted by Desean Smith and Jacory Washington. Hopefully these two can show him a good time here in Baton Rouge, but LSU does not exactly have the best tight-end reputation, especially compared to Arkansas.
Last but not least, the 4-star cornerback out of Texas, Holton Hill. This 6-foot-2 corner is an exciting prospect from Lamar and has had LSU on his list for awhile, but looks to stay in Texas with UT and Baylor being his leaders. He will be hosted by Corey Thompson, a fellow Texan, that will look to lure him away from the Lone Star State like he did a couple years ago.
Notes
Four other targets were scheduled to visit this weekend as well, but were forced to reschedule due to conflicts. These four targets were Tyron Johnson, Adonis Thomas, Donte Jackson and current commit Xavier Lewis.
Thomas rescheduled due to his mother not being able to make the trip this weekend. Both he and LSU want his mom to be there so he will be visiting in January. The former Florida commit has been flirting with LSU for some time and is anxious to visit Baton Rouge.
Jackson, Johnson and Lewis are a tight group (<3) and the LSU staff really wants them to visit together. Lewis is a solid commitment even after decommitting once before. Jackson and Johnson have both been targeted by Texas Tech and Jackson has been considered a UGA lean for awhile now with other big schools getting after him. A commitment from either Johnson or Jackson (WHY NOT BOTH) would be huge for LSU.
