Patrick Peterson Signs for 5 Years, $70 Million Extension

Former LSU DB Patrick Peterson got paid.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

News broke last night that former LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson inked a spanking new 5-year, $70 million contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals. He's guaranteed $48 million of that contract. The news first leaked via his personal twitter account:

Peterson becomes the first member of the 2011 draft class to sign an extension. He was recently voted #22 of the NFL's top 100 players, with a fan vote on NFL.com giving 1,801 votes that his ranking is "underrated." Rhichard Sherman is the only corner who ranked higher than him on the list.

Peterson is a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time NFL All-Pro, that's dabbled on offense for the Cardinals, but specializes as a true-blue, lock down corner. Peterson's new deal puts him right near the top of all NFL CBs in terms of his annual rate, netting him about $10,000 a year more than Richard Sherman.

I tweeted it last night, but Patrick Peterson is the very embodiment of what we should hope every LSU athlete will be. Not only is he sensationally talented and successful, he's a downright quality guy. He's one of the five best to ever put on the purple and gold. Good for him getting his money.

In case you were wondering, Patrick Peterson is very good at football.
