The SEC and LSU released the SEC baseball television schedule for 2015 and it's pretty close to the dream broadcast situation we've always had. Every LSU home game is under the rights control of ESPN under the SEC Network deal, so every LSU home game, from opening night on, will be on some combination of ESPN/2/U/SEC Network or the SEC Network+ platform. Additionally, the tradition of LSU baseball's home station, the Jumbo Sports produced Cox Sports TV games will continue with all 3 of the games at the Houston Classic and LSU's 4 in-state road games (@ Southern, @ Tulane, @ UNO, and the previously announced Wally Pontiff Classic vs ULL in Metaire ). So for the first time in history, the entirety of LSU baseball's schedule, all 56 games, will be televised.
And yes, I'm counting SECN+ games as full-on television. When the SEC Network's original plans for the digital side of things was first announced, many including myself wondered if it would be nothing more than the Geaux Zone with a new coat of paint. However, if you've watched any of LSU's SECN+ exclusive volleyball, soccer, or men's and women's hoops games (and if you haven't, what are you doing here?) you already know that it's been more than that. While we have no details yet, don't expect LSU Baseball on SECN+ to be a radio call and minimal camera work. In fact, if the LSU men's hoops OOC games earlier this year are any indication, Lynn Rollins and Ronnie Rantz will probably be in the booth most games (maybe even Ben McDonald, though he is slated to be one of ESPNs main college baseball on-air talents this season.)
Is it less LSU baseball on "actual" TV? Yes. 20 games on a combination of ESPN Networks and Cox Sports is less than the 30+ we had last year, but remember most of those games were on Cox Sports. I don't want to diminish the great friend that network has been to LSU baseball fans, but if you didn't have Cox cable, those games might as well have not been on TV. Now, more of LSU Baseball is available to a national audience. And I expect SECN+ to be an experience miles better than what the Geaux Zone ever was, if only for the fact that it is dead simple these days to get SECN+ content on your TV. We're talking ~$40 bucks for a chromecast or amazon stick, plus the cable subscription you already have. The only people who lose out on this are folks who cannot be bothered to watch any sports that aren't on the cable dial. And if you consider yourself a sports fan in 2014, in a world where stuff like MLB.tv is not just an afterthought but a must have for the modern professional baseball fan, and you read your LSU news on, say, an electronic journal posted on the internet, it's past time for you to get with the whole web sports thing.
And I haven't even brought up the rest of the league yet. A total north of 450 SEC baseball games will be carried by some form of ESPN/2/U/SEC Net and the SECN+ service, including the entirety of the league slate, a first for college baseball. No longer will we have to shell out money to State or Vandy or SCar to use their questionable streaming service for a weekend, we've got access to it all. The Tournament gets an upgrade as well with the entire bracket live on SEC Network (NO BLACKOUTS!) and the Championship game on ESPN2. Even the highly popular Thursday Night showcase game is returning, expanding to two games across ESPNU and SEC Network.
The SEC Network will be airing baseball in a manner that is light years ahead of the pitiful lip service the sport gets from the likes of the Pac12 and Big Ten networks. Only Texas, who has the Longhorn Network to air every game it can live, will get better TV coverage this season, and given the current BXII TV rights, I'm not even sure if that's still true.
