The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought in 1864 as part of the Union's campaign to take Atlanta in the Civil War. The battle went down in the Win column for the Confederacy and was a legend in the hearts and minds of many Southerners as Atlanta eventually fell. Years later Major League Baseball organized and it's first commissioner was Kennesaw Mountain Landis, named after the battle where his father fought and was wounded. Landis in his time as commissioner became a legend in the game as he implemented many innovations such as the All Star Game.
Fast forward to this century and Kennesaw St in 2015 is the proud parent of a brand new D1-AA football program, who will finish their first year ever in existence with a winning record. They're also home to a pretty good baseball program and have famous Alumni like SB Nation Senior College Football Editor Jason Kirk and....that guy from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
As part of the Legends Classic tournament, the Owls of Kennesaw State come to Baton Rouge looking to steal away a W from LSU. The Tiger squad had a great opener Friday night in the PMAC against McNeese in front of a national television audience. This Legends Classic which continues Thursday against South Alabama will also be televised on ESPNU and will ensure national exposure in what looks to become a legendary season with newcomers Ben Simmons and SEC co-freshman of the week Antonio Blakeney. After a one game suspension due to participation in a pickup game (THANKS NCAA), Senior Guard Josh Gray returns to the lineup. The important job tonight will be to stop THE NATIONS LEADING SCORER (after one game) Yonel Brown, a 5'9" guard who racked up 34 point in an opening night loss to Alabama.
