Preview/Gamethread: LSU vs Ole Miss

Another (surprise!) must win for The Tigers.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday's game against The Rebels is an important test for The Tigers. LSU and Ole Miss are in similar situations late in the season. The game is a must-win for both teams. The Tigers are currently tied with Georgia for fifth in the league, one game behind Ole Miss (19-9, 10-5 SEC). LSU is coming hot off their seventh road win of the season, an 84-61 win against Auburn.

The Tigers had an impressive victory in Oxford earlier in the season. Keith Hornsby hit five 3-pointers and led the team with 23 points in the win on January 14. Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey had 18 and 14 points respectively in the first game against The Rebels. Their numbers were not bad, but The Tigers struggled to get penetratuon and shoot. The Rebel defense was able to contain Martin and Mickey, and Saturday could look similar. It was a great win for the team traveling to Oxford in January. The Tigers have typically struggled on the road, and Oxford is a tough place to play. Now, it is expected that The Tigers be able to take care of business on their home court Sarurday.

Josh Gray and Keith Hornsy may need to have another big game to help The Tigers on Saturday. It will be important to score early and fast. The Rebels leading scorer is Stefan Moody. If LSU can contain him the game should be well within reach. A win against Ole Miss will put The Tigers at 4th in the league and set up an important game with No. 18 Arkansas on March 7.

It is also senior day for two Tigers, John Odo and Antonio Robinson. There will be a presentation prior to the game in The PMAC. Tip off is at 1 p.m., and the game will be televised on the FSN network.
