LSU National Signing Day Preview: The Specialists

What do LSU's specialists in the 2015 signing class look like?

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

It's no secret how much emphasis Les Miles places on recruiting specialists. He's been known to take multiple kicker prospects in single signing classes. He actively recruits, long snappers and punters, when many resign that role to a walk-on. Debate the merits of it all you like, but there's definitely a positive correlation between LSU's strong ST performance and recruiting to that end.

2015 looks to be more of the same.

Commits

Blake Ferguson, Long Snapper

Ferguson is the younger brother of current LSU long snapper Reid Ferguson. He committed to LSU way back in September of 2013. He will likely take a RS this year before assuming the LS duties for next season. I plan on copy/pasting my Better Know a Freshman piece on Reid (Posuer called it the best thing I've ever written!) and find/replacing all instances of "Reid" with "Blake."

Josh Growden, Punter

6'2", 190 pounds of punting machine and good looks

Growden committed just yesterday, after visiting this weekend. LSU's Aussie pipeline remains alive and well. The handsome lad puts LSU in position for three straight Australian punters. I like to think Les just enjoys the accent.

Targets

Summary

A long snapper and a punter, and Les is at it again. But it's worth it. No matter how mad it makes you. It's totally worth it.
