2015 will be the year of Fournette, but there's never any shortage of RB talent in Baton Rouge. Seniors Kenny Hilliard and Terrance Magee are off to the NFL, leaving returning Sophomore Darrel Williams as the only back returning from the 2014 LSU backfield, fullbacks included. Williams saw workload in 2014 and will likely see an enhanced role in 2015.
LSU sought to bolster the depth by adding a slew of talented runners, including 4-star Derrius Guice, 4-star Nick Brossette and 4-star David Ducre. Each will have a chance for significant contributions this fall, particularly Ducre, who enrolled early and will take part in Spring Practice.
Yet, it may be Derrius Guice's unique talents that stand above the pack. No other back either currently on the roster (sans Fournette), or coming this summer, offers Guice's special blend of size, speed, and versatility. Physical talents aside, the major question mark of any incoming freshman will always be how much work he will put in.
Judging by these videos, Guice will be just fine:
Guice's approach to this "offseason" seems quite clear. He's not going to step on campus expecting to be handed anything. Instead, he's going to earn every snap, and his exhausting and impressive workouts prove just that.
