Death Valley is one of the most intimidating and intense places to play in all of college football. Each week, I will handcraft a playlist for Tiger fans to listen to in order to ensure that they are at their most HYPE. NSFW.
The first ever Tiger Tracklist features mainly introductory (or re-introductory) songs since it's not only the first game of the year, but also the first home game of the year. At the top of the playlist is Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde, an artist who you probably would not have predicted would be on a pump up playlist, but I think there's a strong connection to be made with LSU football:
I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm
And the scars that mark my body, they're silver and gold
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones
It keeps my veins hot, the fire's found a home in me
I move through town, I’m quiet like a fight
And my necklace is of rope, I tie it and untie it
And now people talk to me, but nothing ever hits home
People talk to me, and all the voices just burn holes
I’m done with it
This is the start of how it all ends
They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
I'm speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart
There's also Run The Jewel's first song from their self titled album, which if you're not familiar with by now, you will be by the end of the season because they will be mainstays. Of course there's Boosie in there too, this is an LSU site, but The View From The Afternoon, the Arctic Monkey's intro song to their debut (and masterpiece) is another song that I think isn't something that usually doesn't come to mind when I think about getting hype. But while the song was written about a night out on the town, every time I hear the first verse I think about the afternoon of a home game:
Anticipation has a habit to set you up
For disappointment in evening entertainment
But tonight there'll be some love
Tonight there'll be a ruckus yeah regardless of what's gone before
I want to see all of the things that we've already seen.
So there you have it, my gift to you. Go off my children, enjoy football and if you're going to the game, use this to mentally prepare for the game.
