POSTGAME: LSU 78, Southern Miss 61

Blakeney shines with 26 points in sloppy win

NCAA Basketball: SEC Tournament-Louisiana State vs Texas A&M Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

After one of the more sloppy games we’ll probably see all season, Antonio Blakeney made the home crowd proud with 26 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds in LSU’s 78-61 win over Southern Miss. He shot 9-14 from the field, and a perfect 3-3 from long range.

Both teams played very poorly tonight, with Southern Miss turning the ball over 14 times to LSU’s 13. Fortunately, Southern Miss shot as well as they held onto the ball, ending the night shooting 39% from the field to LSU’s 54%

Skylar Mays, who excelled in Saturday’s game, played 20 minutes but couldn’t score a single point, shooting 0-5. He finished with 6 assists and 3 turnovers. Reigning SEC Player of the Week Duop Reath fouled out with 10 points and only 2 rebounds.

After an impressive outing Saturday at the free throw line, LSU went back to its old ways, going 9-19 at the line. The Tigers out-rebounded USM 39-33.

Craig Victor will be back from his suspension Friday night against the North Florida Ospreys, as LSU aims to win their third game before traveling to The Bahamas for the annual Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.
