Derrius Guice Named SEC Player of the Week

The sophomore back also picked up the Walter Camp POW award.

Thirty-seven carries for a school-record 285 yards and four touchdowns will get you noticed, and it’s earned LSU’s Derrius Guice both the SEC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week award, and the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s national Player of the Week honor.

Guice is currently leading the SEC in all-purpose yards with 135.1 per game, and sits tied with Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald for the lead in rushing touchdowns with 14. He’s second in total rushing yards at 1,249. He also joined Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker and Moe Williams as the only backs in SEC history to log multiple 250-yard rushing games. In other news, The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger is reporting that LSU and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda have agreed to a new three-year contract, although the deal is not officially signed yet. That should allay some fears that Aranda would be poached by other schools. Granted, the deal isn’t signed, but that’s not unusual. Coaches often let contracts sit. Still if you have any concerns, Aranda has been quite active on the recruiting trail for LSU.
