Former 5-star OT Chidi Okeke took to Twitter today to announce he will be transferring from LSU:
Announcement for all my well wishers and coaches, I just got my release from LSU. I'm looking forward to know where I'm going next!

Okeke was a big time pull for Jeff Grimes just two seasons ago. He was always a long term project OT, though I was quite bullish on his potential. At the time, I thought he was a risk academically but he seemed to get that piece in order after some transcript discrepancies were cleared by the clearinghouse. There were never any reports of him being ineligible at LSU, so that piece was resolved.
Yet, Okeke couldn’t find his way into the starting lineup last year, despite a rash of injuries that had LSU, at times, playing their starting Center at Offensive Tackle. Solving for tackle was an ongoing issue, as KJ Malone struggled in his first season as a starter and Toby Weathersby seemed continually dinged up. That, as much as anything, speaks to where the coaching staff saw his development.
I had hopes Okeke could piece it all together and wind up locking down the LT spot, as early as last year. But, for whatever reason, it never clicked.
I suspect another P5 program will take a chance on his immense athletic abilities. We wish him the best of luck at his next destination.
