Recruiting All-American bowls are upon us, and select recruits are descending upon Orlando for the first of the series, the Under Armour All-American Bowl. All-American bowls more or less pointless exhibitions and opportunities for highly recruited players to shine up against other elite competition. LSU will be sending the most commitments of any school to the Under Armour game in 2017:

Beyond the extra coverage for recruits, the week of practice and game serves for an additional evaluation process for recruiting services. Though film is widely available for recruits in this day and age, it can often be difficult to evaluate them against HS competition that typically can’t stack up to their physical abilities. How do they perform against players with similar talents? It should be fun to see how LSU’s commits fare during practices this week.
The final piece of the All-American practices is the continued recruitment of uncommitted prospects. There’s a number of LSU targets that will be participating this week, and LSU’s commits will no doubt be working to secure their services. Here’s a few guys to keep an eye on this week and where they may stand with LSU:
Marvin Wilson: 5-star DT from Houston is largely considered an LSU lean right now. Every Crystal Ball since December 15th has been to LSU and several from Longhorns writers. LSU is in good position but must continue to push. Wilson is the number 3 overall prospect and no. 1 DT in America. He recently named LSU in his top 5.
Phidarian Mathis: 4-star DT from Neville is a major priority now that the staff struck out on Isaiah Buggs. The two major hurdles to overcome with Mathis are Alabama and qualifying. Rashard Lawrence’s former HS teammate will visit LSU in January. There’s ground to be made up but this is a battle the staff should win.
Levi Jones: 4-star LB from Houston seems to have fallen back down the board. He appears to be an A&M lean in the minds of writers, but he recently stated FSU leads. He also stated he’s not hearing from LSU. There’s some odd murmurings that Monty Rice may actually back out on his LSU commitment. If that happens, does the staff turn back to Jones?
Todd Harris: 4-star S from Plaquemine is a top 100 player that has already visited Arizona State with visits to Ole Miss, Alabama and LSU ahead. All signs point to LSU here.
K’Lavon Chaisson: 4-star DE is being recruited as the Arden Key replacement, and LSU appears to have fallen behind UT of late. He has plans to visit USC, Colorado, LSU and Texas in the month of January and this race will go down to the wire. He does seem to light up when talking about LSU.
Markaviest Bryant: 4-star DE LSU is continuing to pursue, despite being considered a heavy Georgia lean.
Todd Sibley: 4-star RB from Ohio is a former Ohio State commit and current Pitt commit. He’s a newer target for LSU, with new OC Matt Canada.
Christopher Allen: 4-star LB from Baton Rouge pledged to Alabama back in November. Though he says he’s solidly committed, LSU will continue to pursue and try to win him back home. He’s openly discussing LSU trying to flip him ($$).
We’ll keep an eye on any news that breaks throughout the week. As of now, not expecting any commitments during practice or the games.
