On the heels of the very successful Bayou Picnic from over the weekend, LSU is currently on a roll on the recruiting, starting on Friday with Austin Deculus declaring for the good guys. Saturday and Sunday netted a pair of extra commitments. And last night, yet another prospect pulled the trigger on his offer. Four prospect in four days makes for a pretty good run, one strong enough to rocket LSU up from outside the top 20 nationally to a top 5 overall class.
All signs point to the momentum continuing today, with Madison, Mississippi offensive guard Saadhiq Charles set to pledge.
Charles is a big framed kid, recently measuring at 6'4.5" and 314 pounds at the Opening Regionals. He finished with 100.74 SPARQ rating that day, which is a strong score overall. Most impressive is his 48" powerball toss. That would have ranked no. 1 nationally against all measured players last season by an inch and a half over 5-star DL Ed Oliver. That's some natural and gnarly upper body strength.
Let's check the tape:
First thing that stands out is his pure size. He's a big, bulky monster out there. If you want to see him play OL, skip ahead to 3:25 in the video. In his defensive highlights you can see how well the kid moves. For a guy that is nearly 6'5", he has pretty good bend in the knees and hips and actually plays with good leverage. His highlights aren't superbly impressive, but this kid has gobs of natural athletic ability waiting to be molded into a complete package. Once he gets to college and can focus solely on being an OL and not playing both ways to help his team, I think he could progress tremendously.
Charles is set to decide between LSU and Mississippi State today. Look for the good guys to take this one.
