Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Texas A&M were up on the dais on Tuesday for SEC Media Days over in Hoover, Ala. Today is Bama day so yeah...good day for social media.
- Dan Mullen showed up in the crosshairs for the Jeffrey Simmons situation, and I don’t think he was ready. In the big room, he basically tried to talk his way around it, and in the off-camera media rooms it got even worse, particularly with Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kyle Tucker, as Bruce Feldman detailed here. Ditto Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports and CBS’s Dennis Dodd. Hugh Freeze had better be ready for Thursday, because between the allegations at Ole Miss and the attempt at pre-game damage control with ESPN’s Marty Smith, there will be a lot of reporters ready to pounce.
- Kirby Smart is a brand-new head coach, Butch Jones has Tennessee ready to finally compete for the East Division title and Kevin Sumlin may be coaching for his job this year. So what do you ask them about? Nick Saban, duh.
- The Advocate had a couple of features on quarterbacks — Trevor Knight and Josh Dobbs.
- Speaking of Smart he drew a lot of praise for poise, comfort, all the usual stuff they say about first-year head coaches at this thing. Which...hey anybody with that haircut, you gotta know he’s not scared of lookin’ goofy in public.
