Four-star defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin has signed his letter of intent with LSU and faxed his paperwork to the Tiger coaching staff.
The top-ranked player in Louisiana and the fourth-ranked defensive tackle in the nation, Tyler Shelvin will give defensive coordinator Dave Aranda his first true nose tackle to insert in his hybrid 3-4 defense. It will take a little work in the weight room with Tommy Moffitt to shed some of that 376 pounds to get him in SEC shape, but even at that size, Shelvin is a thorn in offensive linemen’s side.
While there was a little hesitancy from the defensive tackle that had been committed since 2015 with Alabama lurking around, a visit to Baton Rouge in mid-January was all he needed to formally shut everything down. If LSU gets a signature from Marvin Wilson, give a little due to Shelvin, who did a solid part in recruiting him.
