As reported by Andrew Lopez at the Times-Pic, and confirmed by AD Joe Alleva moments ago, LSU has officially fired head basketball coach Johnny Jones.
It comes as no surprise, as multiple reports suggested as such this week as soon as LSU wrapped up its worst basketball season in 50 years. The Tigers finished 10-21 this year, including a 2-16 mark in SEC play, highlighted by a 15-game losing streak.
Jones, a former LSU assistant and player under the legendary Dale Brown, came to LSU in 2012. And while his record improved slightly for his first three seasons, the Tigers missed the NCAA tournament and bowed out of an NIT bid in 2016, despite the presence of No. 1 recruit, and eventual No. 1 NBA Draft pick Ben Simmons. Things bottomed out for Jones, and LSU this season.
We’ll stay on top of this story as more develops.
