A number of top recruits were on hand for the start of LSU’s spring practices on Monday. Pontotoc, Miss. offensive lineman Cole Smith was on hand and received his official offer to join LSU’s class of 2018, and decided to jump on it.

Smith is a 6-4, 275-pound tackle, but projects to move inside, something that LSU has major need for at the moment. His junior highlights also show some work on defense.
Nice build, quick feet and seems to play with an attitude. Doesn’t have the build for tackle at the next level, so a move inside seems natural. And chances are the staff has seen something of him snapping the ball if they feel like he’s a center. Doesn’t look like his competition is particularly great, but he definitely has the attitude you want to see.
Smith is currently unrated by 247 Sports, and his offer sheet is mostly dotted with mid-majors like Arkansas State, Marshal, the UL schools, etc... Curious to see if that begins to change now that LSU pounces. Smith marks the 10th commitment for LSU’s 2018 recruiting class, which currently sits at 4 in the 247 composite rankings.
