Reports surfaced today that LSU senior quarterback Danny Etling would be having back surgery — one of those surgeries that’s pretty hard to classify as “minor.”
Still, per a source within the program, the procedure was minor and designed to relieve some lingering pain. Recovery is not expected to hamper summer conditioning for Etling, who led the Tigers with 2,123 passing yards and 11 touchdowns last season and is still likely the starting quarterback despite Saturday’s lackluster spring game effort.
Ed Orgeron released the following statement on the matter:
“Danny had a minor back procedure this morning and everything came out alright,” Orgeron said.
The situation was known to the coaching staff, but not considered serious enough for Etling to miss spring practice. And he is expected to be full speed when the team reports for training camp in August.
