Tigers shutout South Alabama

Power and pitching secures 6-0 victory.

Home runs from Amanda Doyle and Allie Walljasper powered the Tigers to a 6-0 win Tuesday night over South Alabama.

For a while it looked as though the LSU offense was in its usual funk, tied at zero but trailing South Alabama in hits entering the bottom of the third. The inning began with a walk by Sahvanna Jaquish and a single by Quinn, before Doyle, one of the brighter spots in the Tiger lineup of late, crushed her fourth home run of the season.

Nicky Dawson led off the sixth with a triple and one batter later, Walljasper would hit her second home run of the season. Later in the inning, Jaquish would single home Claire Weinberger, doubling up the Tiger score.

Although the offense got off to a slow start again, when things got clicking, everyone in the lineup was contributing. Shemiah Sanchez and Aliyah Andrews were the only two starters not to record a hit. Beth Torina didnt have any major changes to the lineup but did get some at-bats for, most notably, Weinberger and Layna Savoie.

LSU got fantastic pitching on the evening with Carley Hoover pitching a complete game shutout striking out six while surrendering five hits and a walk. She was supported by an LSU defense that played error free ball.

With this game in the books, LSU has concluded its regular season non-conference schedule. The Tigers went 26-5 against non-SEC teams during the regular season, but three of those five losses came against ranked teams that would have greatly strengthened LSU’s resume had they won. The Tigers stay in Baton Rouge for three games against Missouri starting Friday.
