Caden Sterns Flips To Texas

Central Texas DB was one of HC Orgeron’s first commits.

Late last night, news broke that stud safety commit Caden Sterns, from Cibolo, TX, flipped his commitment to the University of Texas:

Sterns committed to LSU back in November the day after Orgeron was named the new head coach. Sterns is a top 40 player in the 2018 signing class and a significant loss. The news is surprising in that he’s repeatedly emphasized his firm commitment to LSU.

That said, LSU is still working on a monster DB class and if there’s any position a recruiting loss can be afforded, it’s definitely the defensive backfield. It’s highly likely LSU has it’s future starters at Safety, for the next few years, already on campus in JaCoby Stevens and Grant Delpit, which made Sterns’ path to playing time a bit murky at best. LSU already has a commitment from 4-star Nadab Joseph, 3-star Ardarius Washington and DB Coach Corey Raymond remains in pursuit of 5-star BJ Foster, which will be another UT battle. It’s probably a good time to re-familiarize yourself with the Big Board Corey put together a few months back: LINK.

The loss of Sterns dropped LSU to 15 total commits and to the no. 3 ranking in the 247 Composite Team Rankings. It will be interesting to see what direction the staff will go. Do they turn up the heat on Foster? Do they try to stay in the picture with Sterns? Finding talented DBs has never been a problem for Corey Raymond, so this type of loss is easier to absorb considering the current roster and wealth of remaining targets.
