LSU welcomes familiar foe Mississippi State to Baton Rouge for game one of the Baton Rouge Super Regional tonight at 8:00.
The Tigers and Bulldogs have a storied rivalry that dates all the way back to 1905 and there is no love lost between the two. To add flames to the fire, former LSU assistant coach Andy Cannizaro left in the middle of fall ball to take the head coaching job at Mississippi State and under his watch Brent Rooker has emerged as one of the nation’s best players and a surefire lock for the Golden Spikes.
But all that takes a backseat to the fact that the winner of this series punches their ticket to Omaha. LSU has made it a point to say it doesn’t matter who the visitors are, they’re the team standing in LSU’s way of Omaha.
We’ll see how that works out.
