2019 RB Tyrion Davis Commits!

NCAA Football: Citrus Bowl-Louisiana State vs Louisville Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

LSU remains on a roll on the recruiting trail after nabbing a pair of classmates this weekend, then securing another commit, they’ve reeled in yet another big fish in 2019 Southern Lab RB Tyrion Davis.

247 Sports has Davis listed as a 4-star prospect. He currently holds offers from Alabama, Colorado, UAB and Arizona State as well as LSU. Davis fills a major future need in a depth chart that looks to be a major question mark after Derrius Guice leaves the program.

LSU will remain in the hunt for backs in the 2018 class, but Davis is a stellar addition to the 2019 haul. Check out Davis’ highlights here:

Davis doesn’t look like a top end burner like someone like Guice, but his upright running style is reminiscent of Joseph Addai. He’s got wiggle and at 6’1”, 215, he looks the part of a vintage SEC RB. For a big back, he’s got pretty nifty feet and shows some ability to change direction in a hurry, which should translate at the collegiate level.

He runs a lot of off tackle and edge runs, so I’d like to see his work inside the tackles, which should be more of what he’s asked to do at LSU. The middle of his tape features a few of these plays and he does a good job of lowering his base and making himself a difficult target to tackle.

As a sophomore, it’s clear to see Davis’ abilities on display. He should only get bigger, stronger and faster, which should elevate his overall abilities. Right now, I don’t see a dynamic player, but a good one. He’s the type of back you could feature into your rotation, like a Darrell Williams, but at this point I’d hesitate to say we found our future starting running back.

At any rate, this is a very good get. This marks the 7th commit in the 2019 Signing class and jumps LSU up to the 3rd ranked team nationally. Orgeron and staff remain on the recruiting roll.
