Summertime is here and the baseball regional tailgate is on, weather permitting.
If you’re looking to change up your beverage a bit, NOLA Brewing has released it’s summer seasonal, aptly named Hurricane Saison:
Where we live, hurricane season is kind of a big deal. For a few months every summer, any day might come word that a storm is on track to turn your life upside down. Plus it’s really hot outside. So you’re a little on edge. Which is why we made our Hurricane Saison: to refresh the spirit and take the edge off. The Belgian saison yeast imparts a fruity essence that has been likened to passion fruit or mango. Its balanced blend of three hops and five malts is accented by the addition of cumin, peppercorns and grains of paradise, creating a truly distinctive – and we think perfect – summer beer.
Saisons are a traditionally French/Belgian farmhouse-style beer that is traditionally brewed with a specific yeast strain and single-malt style, then flavored with spices. NOLA ups the ante with the additional malts and hops.
Review
The spices dominate the bouquet, along with the fruity flavor of the malts. And that fruitiness continues on the first taste, with notes of pineapple and banana that never become overly sweet due to a carbonated, lightly hoppy backbone. The carbonation and a spicy finish close it out with a refreshing, crisp finish. 4.25 out of 5 stars. Very refreshing summer beverage.
