And the Valley Drinks: Founders Doom

A flavorful, boozy specialty for tonight’s high-stakes game.

Founders released a new member to their barrel-aged series in the last month or so, and if you can find a four-pack. It’s a little pricey, but it’s a definite change-up to the flavor palate a bit: Doom.

Doom may be impending but that doesn’t mean you have to fear it. A collision of worlds, the intense hop character of our imperial IPA mingles with the warm vanilla and oak notes imparted from time spent in our favorite bourbon barrels. Like all good things, Doom comes to those who wait.

Take this as you will re: tonight’s game. But at more than 10 percent alcohol by volume, it’ll either ease your sorrows or lubricate your celebration.

It has a deep, clear, dark yellow color, with a bouquet that gives you it all, the bourbon and the hops. Sweet, yet floral.. The open is very neutral with small notes of the malts, but then the flavor gets very deep. There are notes of vanilla and honey from the bourbon, with just enough hops to add a little bit of bite and texture at the end. It’s a bit hard to session, but its very interesting and enjoyable. There’s some real depth of flavor that bridges the hops and the sweetness in a way that is balanced. 4.25 stars out of five.
