Provens is a three-star prospect listed as an athlete at 5-11 and 187 pounds. He rushed for 1,264 yards and 17 touchdowns in 11 games as a junior, and earned offers from the likes of Auburn, USC, Tennessee, UCLA and others.
He marks LSU’s second running back commitment in a week following Chris Curry on Thursday night, although the athlete listing indicates that Provens could possibly play somewhere else. What’s interesting is that Provens may be taking the spot of West Monroe’s Slade Bolden, who fits a similar profile as a running back.
Well, for starters, he definitely looks faster than his listed 40 time of 4.73. A smooth runner, and his reported 35-inch vertical shows up in his explosiveness. Nice skills as a receiver, too. Looks like the kind of player that could fit in the slot receiver/jet-sweep runner position that Matt Canada likes to have in his offense. And there’s still some flexibility there depending on what some other running back prospects decide to do. LSU will be looking to get three backs in this class.
