Earlier today Southeastern fell to Rice to end their season for a second year in a row in Baton Rouge. Rice will not have ample time to digest the win as they have to turn around and play LSU.
If LSU wins, they are the regional champions and advance to the Super Regionals. If Rice wins, then a winner-take-all championship game will be played Monday.
LSU leads the all-time series with Rice 16-12, but Rice leads the series in the postseason with a 7-6 advantage, a record LSU can tie with a win tonight. The two schools met three times in last year’s regional, with LSU winning two of the three contests between the schools en route to a regional championship.
Rain is in the forecast and it is looming, but as of now the game is scheduled for a 8:00 p.m. CST start. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and online via WatchESPN.
For Rice, first baseman Addison Moss will start on the mound. In 21 appearances this season, the right-handed part time pitcher has a 6.45 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched, allowing 36 hits and 30 runs (27 earned) while posting a K/BB of 1.56 (28/18) and a .269 BAA.
LSU will throw Sunday starter Eric Walker, who has a 3.78 ERA in 85.2 innings pitched where he allowed 74 hits and 37 runs (36 earned) while posting a K/BB of 3.04 (70/23) with opponents hitting .233 against him.
