Mississippi State has defeated Southern Miss 8-6 to win the Hattiesburg Regional and advance to the Baton Rouge Super Regional this weekend.
State needs no introduction to LSU as the two schools have a very deep and storied history, but this is so much more than just two rivals meeting in the postseason. This weekend’s super regional matchup brings first year Mississippi State head coach Andy Cannizaro back to LSU, where he was an assistant coach as recently as...the middle of fall ball.
LSU and State played this year in Starkville to end the regular season with the SEC West championship on the line. LSU swept the Bulldogs to not only win the west but also claim an SEC regular season co-championship with Florida, outscoring Cannizaro’s team 25-13.
State holds the advantage over LSU all-time 203-182-1 in a series that goes back to 1905 but LSU has won 10 of the last 11 series against the Bulldogs, with the lone exception coming in 2016 when MSU took two of three from LSU, but LSU would even the series with a win in the SEC Tournament, famous for giving us COHEN CLIPBOARD DOT GIF:

UPDATE: The times for the Super Regional have been released. It will be a Sat-Sun-Mon series with 8pm local start times on ESPN2.
