WEEKEND OBLONG SPHEROID 7/13 - 7/16

I try my best to make this a weekly thing in the offseason, but sometimes the Real Life interrupts the Blog Lyfe and delays cannot be avoided. My apologies.

Two weeks ago I told you about the IFAF Women’s World Championship and I’m proud to report that the US retained it’s world title, dominating the field and besting Canada 41-16 in the gold medal game. Our friend Seth Galina had the privilege of coaching for the Canadian team.

Also while we were away, the Indoor Football League, a breakaway group of mostly former Arena League teams, had it’s championship as the Arizona Rattlers defeated the Sioux Falls Storm by a score of 50-41.

This week in special international football, the IFAF’s U19 European Championships are being held this week, with the final game between Denmark and Sweden happening Friday morning.

Elsewhere this weekend, Super Rugby ramps up it’s schedule, the CFL enters week 5, and Fox continues to give us meager portions of Aussie Rules and NRL. In a rare occurrence, there will be no football-like substances on actual ESPN channels, though there will be plenty on ESPN3.
