No surprise, but Coach O made the announcement at tonight’s press conference.

At tonight’s post-practice press conference, Ed Orgeron made it official that senior Danny Etling will be LSU’s starting quarterback.

Etling was the resounding favorite to win the competition with freshmen Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse and sophomore Justin McMillan, but the youngsters, particularly Brennan, made it a game effort, per Orgeron.

LSU has wrapped up training camp and has begun working on the gameplan for the season opener against BYU next week in Houston. Etling, a transfer from Purdue in 2015, started the final 10 games for LSU last season. He is the team’s fifth different season-opening starter in the last seven seasons. He is also the first senior starter for a season opener since Zach Mettenberger in 2013.
