WEEKEND OBLONG SPHEROID 8/3 - 8/5

Tonight, as the NFL plays a game of pretend football with practice squad players, the uneducated will shout to the heavens “Football Is Back!” But you and I, we know the truth. Football has been back for two months now (for some of us, it never left.) When we prayed to the gods for football, our neighbors to the north have provided us 7 weeks of Canadian football and if you’ve missed it, you’ve missed out on some crazy games.

As is now annual tradition, I’d like to take a moment to highlight the LSU players currently on active CFL rosters.

Peter Dyakowski - OL, SSK. “The World’s Smartest Canadian”, Dyakowski is one of the few Saban era players still playing professional football, now in his 10th CFL season. After spending his entire career with Hamilton, Dyakowski signed with Toronto as a free agent this offseason and was then traded to Saskatoon for former Appy St great Armanti Edwards. He’s also got a great twitter account.

Drake Nevis - DT, WPG. After 4 years bouncing around the NFL, Nevis has found a solid home in the CFL, recording 30 tackles and 5 sacks for Hamilton last season. He’s now starting for Winnipeg.

Terrence Toliver - WR, HAM. Toliver went undrafted in 2011 and floated around the summer rosters of a few NFL teams and had a season in Omaha with the now defunct UFL. Toliver signed with Hamilton for the 2015 season and blossomed in 2016 with 1036 yards on 65 catches with 9 TDs. Unfortunately, Toliver tore his ACL in the 2017 opener and is out for the rest of the year.

Things are winding down in the pseudo-football world as we are just two weeks away from the return of NAIA college football. CFL has a doubleheader on Friday night. We get a double shot of NRL Rugby this weekend while ESPN3 hosts the Super Rugby League Final between the Lions from South Africa and the Crusaders from New Zealand on Saturday morning.
