NFLSU Recap: Week 3

NFL: Detroit Lions at New York Giants Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

A total of 29 former LSU Tigers took the field in Week 3 of the NFL regular season.

Thursday, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers had 6 total tackles. For the San Francisco 49ers, offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth started his third game of the season. Cornerback Rashard Robinson had 4 tackles and 2 assists on the game. The Rams slid past the 49ers on the road, 41-39.

To kick off the Sunday action, the Baltimore Ravens took on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette was in for the Jags, racking up a total of 17 carries for 59 yards. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry, and scored one touchdown in the team’s 44-7 victory over the Ravens.

In Buffalo, Reid Ferguson started at long snapper for the Bills. Cornerback Tre’Davious White made an impact on defense, with 6 tackles, 1 assist and an interception. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams also made his presence known, with 4 tackles and one sack on the game. The Bills went on to win at home over the Denver Broncos, 26-16.

Wide receiver Russell Shepard was in for the Carolina Panthers last weekend, but did not come up with a single reception. Offensive guard Trai Turner started at right tackle. The Panthers fell to the New Orleans Saints, 34-13.

At U.S. Bank Stadium, linebacker Kendell Beckwith recorded a total of 6 tackles and 2 assists for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For the Minnesota Vikings, defensive end Danielle Hunter had one tackle and 2 assists. The Vikings won at home, 34-17.

Former Tigers’ linebacker Barkevious Mingo started at the position for the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, posting one tackle. Defensive tackle Al Woods was also in for the team at nose tackle. The Colts defeated the Browns, 31-28.

For the Miami Dolphins, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux totaled one tackle. Current teammate and wide receiver Jarvis Landry recorded 6 receptions for 48 yards, averaging 8 yards per reception. Safety Jamal Adams was in for the New York Jets, coming up with 2 tackles and one sack. Cornerback Morris Claiborne also started, but did no impact on defense to report. The Jets were victorious over the Dolphins, 20-6.

In Detroit, linebackers Deion Jones and Duke Riley took the field for the Atlanta Falcons. Jones totaled 6 tackles and 1 assist in the Falcons’ 30-26 win over the Lions.

Wide receiver O’dell Beckham Jr. is arguably our MVP of the week, totaling 9 receptions for 79 yards. He averaged 8.8 yards per catch, and accounted for 2 of his team’s touchdowns. Brad Wing also started for the New York Giants, punting four times for 154 yards, averaging 38.5 yards per. For the Philadelphia Eagles, Donnie Jones also had 4 punts for 182 yards, averaging 45.5 per. Free safety Jalen Mills was in on defense, racking up 9 tackles and 3 assists. The Eagles defeated the Giants, 27-24.

The weekend’s Seattle Seahawks - Tennessee Titans matchup saw just one Tiger in center Ethan Pocic. Pocic started his third game in the Seahawks’ 33-27 loss at Nissan Stadium.

Defensive tackle Bennie Logan was also a singleton this time for the Kansas City Chiefs, recording 2 tackles. The Chiefs cruised past the Los Angeles Chargers on the road, 24-10.

Four Tigers saw action when the Cincinatti Bengals faced the Green Bay Packers in Wisconsin. Bengals running back Jeremy Hill had 7 carries for 23 yards, averaging 3.3 yards per carry. Wide receiver Brandon LaFell came up with a single reception for 5 yards. Linebacker Kevin Minter posted 2 tackles and 3 assist. For Green Bay, Ricky Jean Francois started at defensive tackle. Francois was released earlier in the season, then brought back shortly after to add depth to the Packers’ defensive line. The Packers defeated the Bengals, 27-24.

In the Las Vegas Raiders - Washington Redskins matchup, offensive lineman Vadal Alexander made his 12th NFL career start. The Redskins won, 27-10.

Monday night, Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman La’el Collins made his third start of the season. For the Arizona Cardinals, defensive back Tyrann Mathieu totaled 4 tackles. Cornerback Patrick Peterson had 2 tackles. The Cardinals fell to the Cowboys, 28-17.

Inactives for this week were linebacker Kwon Alexander for the Buccaneers, offensive tackle Joe Barksdale for the Chargers, running back Alfred Blue for the Texans, defensive end Tashawn Bower for the Vikings, offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins for the Pittsburgh Steelers and safety Eric Reid for the 49ers.
