LSU’s 7-1 start in 2018 lead many to hope for immediate dividends on the recruiting trail. They’ve yet to truly reap the rewards, but things may be on the brink of changing. Last night, Louisiana’s no. 1 prospect in the 2020 cycle, ATH Kayshon Boutte, gave his verbal pledge to Coach O:

Boutte is the type of electric, two-way star that could impact all three phases of the game.
247 lists him as a WR, but there’s opportunity, and perhaps depth chart potential, for him to line up on defense as well. At 5-foot-10, 175 pounds he’s a solid but not overwhelming sized prospect, similar to the mold of Tre White. Presently Boutte is ranked as the 66th overall prospect in the 2020 Composite.
He joins WRs Darin Turner and Kris Abrams-Draine in the 2020 WR verbals list. QB TJ Finley and DT Jaqeulin Roy round out a group that has Coach O off to a hot start in 2020. This brings LSU’s class up to no. 4 nationally behind Miami, Alabama and Ohio State.
Perhaps most importantly, LSU’s secured verbal commitments from three of the state’s top 10 prospects in next year’s cycle already. Coach O and staff will need to continue recruiting them all hard, but as the 2019 class in state looks due to deliver a couple big misses, it will be interesting to monitor if O can deliver on one of his biggest promises: to lock down Louisiana again.
