Tigers wrap up the non-conference schedule seeking 10th win

NCAA Basketball: Furman at Louisiana State Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The LSU Tigers (9-3) wrap up their non-conference schedule this evening as they host the UL-Monroe Warhawks (7-4) in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Warhawks are currently ranked 175th by KenPom and are on a four game winning streak. Their strongest win to date is a 74-58 victory over Stephen F. Austin, who barely edged out the Tigers by one point last season.

UL-Monroe has played three top 60 teams on the road, including Ole Miss, and failed to beat any of them, the closest being a ten point loss to Texas. LSU is currently ranked 41st by KenPom and is projected to win by 14.

The Tigers have won fourteen straight games in the PMAC, and eighteen straight games against other Louisiana teams. The last loss LSU suffered to a Louisiana team was in November 2010 against Nicholls State.

As sure of a thing this appears to be on paper, tonight’s contest could get interesting if the Warhawks can consistently attack from the arc. Granted it’s been against lesser competition, UL-Monroe is shooting 3’s at 41.0% as a team, good for ninth best in the country. Their relatively small size and poor shooting from inside the arc could easily balance that out, but I’m sure most fans who’ve kept an eye on the team so far this season will be weary of any team that can shoot the three well.

Tonight’s contest will tip off at 7pm in the PMAC and will be streamed live on SEC Network+. You can listen in to the game on 98.1FM, follow my live tweets @marq113, or join the discussion in the comments below.
