LSU’s spring sports are firing up as softball had a strong weekend and the baseball team prepares for opening day on Friday. Will Wade and the boys rolled to a win on Saturday as Nikki Fargas and the Lady Tigers continued to impress on Sunday. DD Breaux kept her group rolling with a strong showing last Friday. Football news is finally starting to die down now that signing day is complete and the coaching staff is filled out but Coach O still gave an interesting interview over the weekend.
Paul Mainieri and the Tigers will return to Alex Box Stadium on Friday to begin their season against Notre Dame. LSU is losing a lot after last year’s run to the World Series final so if you would like to get caught up on the new look Tigers The Advocate has you covered. The softball team finished the weekend with a win over UMass to complete their 4-0 start to the season. Shemiah Sanchez and Amber Serrett both homered Sunday to lead LSU to a 7 run outburst. Carley Hoover got the first win on Thursday with freshmen Shelbi Sunseri picking up the first win of her career on Friday. Allie Walljasper got the last two wins of the weekend to move to 2-0. Next up for LSU, Is ULM, who they will face tonight.
LSU notched an 82-66 win over Ole Miss on the hardwood this past Saturday. After going into the half tied at 37, LSU outscored Ole Miss 45-29 in the second half. Duop Reath once again led the way for LSU with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Tremont Waters came close to a double-double with 11 points and 8 rebounds as did Aaron Epps with 11 points and 9 rebounds. LSU travels to Alabama tonight for a game that will tipoff at 8 PM CT. LSU played Alabama well for a half when Alabama traveled to Baton Rouge in January. This was one of the many games this season LSU watched slip away in the second half.
On the women’s side of things, the Tigers kept rolling with another victory over a ranked team with an 80-78 win over Texas A&M. Chloe Jackson and Raigyne Lewis were once again the stars for LSU as they combined to score 53 of the Tigers’ 80 points. LSU will host Ole Miss in the PMAC on Thursday.
The ladies in the gym stayed on par with their fantastic season as they downed 24th ranked Missouri last Friday. Finnegan and Hambrick led the way as they each respectively posted all-around scores of 39.6 and 39.7. On Friday, LSU will head to St. Charles, Missouri for a four-team meet.
Mama Myia, for her part, was named SEC Gymnast of the Week for the third time this year.
Over the weekend Coach O went on WWL AM 870 to discuss his program. One of the highlights of the interview includes him reaffirming that he expects Corey Raymond to remain with the Tigers for a long time.
