Will Wade, LSU Respond to Yahoo! Sports Report

New, comments

“There’s been zero inquiries, zero contact by the NCAA to me, my staff, our players, our administration and our school,” Wade said.

LSU basketball coach Will Wade, along with the university, issued a stern denial of any contact with the NCAA regarding rumored “investigations” in a “report” filed by Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel on Sunday. Wade met with reporters Monday afternoon.

“There’s been zero inquiries, zero contact by the NCAA to me, my staff, our players, our administration and our school,” Wade said. “There’s been zero contact. I’m not really going to expand on it more than that.”

Likewise, Wade’s former school, Virginia Commonwealth, also denied any talk with the NCAA to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

All this should come as little surprise, since the “news” story from Thamel amounted to nothing more than a whisper campaign regarding LSU’s success in recruiting in the 2018 cycle. Whispers that, I remain very confident, were fed to Thamel from a rival coach (or that coach’s agent) for strategic reasons.

“You gotta have thick skin to do this job. That’s part of it,” Wade said. “It comes with coaching at the high level. Certainly, you’re disappointed, but it’s part of it. It’s what you signed up for.”

Wade and the Tigers will travel to South Carolina on Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
