LSU’s coaching staff picked up a nice Easter surprise today with a commitment from Charles Turner, an offensive line prospect out of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Turner is a lanky 250-pound prospect, listed at center — No. 6 overall in the 247 Sports Composite — but with experience at multiple spots along the offensive line.
Right away, you see a kid with really long arms and a mean streak. When he has a kid engaged, that kid goes on the ground and Turner is on him quick. Not sure I see a tackle’s footwork, but long arms and quick hands are strong tools for an interior offensive lineman, whether he’s a guard or a center. Although at 250-260 pounds, he’ll need some time in the weight room.
Turner marks the third offensive line prospect in LSU’s 2019 class, eighth overall player. Also the first true commitment to offensive line coach James Cregg. The class currently sits fourth in the 247 composite, although Cregg still has some big fish he’d like to real in, such as stud tackle Kenyon Green.
