The Tigers won their second consecutive SEC series over the weekend, taking two games from Ole Miss at Tiger Park.
In what has become a weekly tradition, the Tigers played a low-scoring, extra inning game. This one went 19 innings and saw the Tigers emerge victorious 2-1. The winning run game when Amanda Doyle hit a bloop single that scored Taryn Antoine, but the story of the game was Allie Walljasper who pitched every inning. Over her 19 innings of work, Walljasper allowed eight hits while walking four, striking out nine and throwing 237 pitches. She got some help defensively, with Aliyah Andrews making what was likely an incredible, game-saving catch in the 17th.
Game two featured a strong outing from Carley Hoover with the senior pitcher striking out 14 in her complete game performance. The only run of the game came when Shelbi Sunseri lined a home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh for the 1-0 win.
Maribeth Gorsuch got the ball in the finale and was solid for the most part, though surrendered a run in the sixth and was pulled in favor for Hoover who then surrendered two more runs, both unearned. Amanda Doyle homered in the bottom of the seventh to add to the intrigue to the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers lost the final 3-1.
Not a whole lot of new developments as far as offensive production goes, but Beth Torina continues to make changes with the lineup. The most notable being slotting Sunseri in the cleanup spot for the finale and Antonie in now hitting sixth in the finale. Minimal concerns about the pitching from this weekend. It held a bad Ole Miss offense in check for the most part.
