Bats come alive in 8-0 victory over Northwestern State

The Tigers picked up a much needed win Tuesday, with a 8-0 run-rule win against Northwestern State at Tiger Park, highlighted by an outstanding two-way performance by Allie Walljasper.

In the circle, Walljasper pitched 4.2 innings allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out three. At the plate, she went two-of-three with a grandslam home run in the fourth, part of a six run inning for the Tigers.

LSU’s two other sixth inning runs came on an Emily Griggs bases loaded walk and an Amanda Doyle sac fly. Doyle also started the scoring for the Tigers in the first with a RBI single, scoring Taryn Antoine. The deciding run of the came happened when Elyse Thornhill.

After another weekend of offensive struggles, Beth Torina opted for a new lineup on Tuesday. The most notable change was dropping Griggs down to the third spot, Doyle to the cleanup position, and moving Antoine into the second spot. Although Antoine had started out the year as a platoon in right, she has been a fairly consistent hitter at the bottom of the lineup, hitting .299 on the season.

Walljasper’s strong day at the plate, combined with what has been a strong season in the circle for the Tiger senior, probably means she will get another look offensively. It creates a bit of a bind for Shelbi Sunseri, However, Sunseri is hitless in her last 15 at bats.

LSU’s homestand continues on Friday with three against Texas A&M, as the Tigers look to finish the weekend with a record above .500 in conference play.
