Carley Hoover recorded her third career no hitter in LSU’s 4-0 victory over South Alabama Tuesday night in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
The senior LSU ace retired the first 14 batters she faced, six of which came via strikeout, with the first batter reaching on a Becca Schulte error. Hoover would issue one walk in the sixth and one in the seventh. In total she would strikeout eight on the evening. Tuesday’s victory also was Hoovers eighth shutout of the season.
LSU’s offense remained dormant for most of the game. In the sixth inning, Emily Griggs would double and Amanda Doyle would be intentionally walked. The next batter, Shelbi Sunseri, launched a 3-run bomb to left, putting the Tigers up 3-0. LSU’s fourth run came a batter later when Elyse Thornhill doubled and then, while stealing third, would score on a throwing error by the catcher. Although Kara Goff and Taylor Antoine would reach with two outs, the Tigers were unable to cash in the extra runs. Aliyah Andrews had two hits in the game.
Next up for the Tigers are three games in Gainesville against Florida.
