Big pickup for LSU’s 2019 recruiting efforts today, as four-star linebacker Marcel Brooks announced his commitment to the Tigers on the final day of his official visit.

Brooks chose the Tigers over Alabama, and also held offers from Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Oklahoma, among others.
A 6-3, 200-pound linebacker/safety hybrid player, Brooks is rated as the No. 5 overall outside linebacker in the 247 sports composite, and the 112th overall player.
Speed immediately jumps off the board, as well as intensity. Brooks doesn’t like to give up touchdowns, and it shows. Nice form on his tackles as well. Gets low and wraps up. An explosive athlete — especially if this anecdote holds up:
New #LSU LB commit Marcel Brooks once jumped over a Lexus. Even more impressive than his athleticism is his physical style of play. More on what the Tigers are getting here: https://t.co/TJ6Wu2eErf @Sheadixon @SonnyShipp247 @BillyEmbody

Brooks is a bit smaller than the linebackers LSU has recruited in recent years, but the thought is he’s too good of a prospect to pass on, whether he’s a linebacker or a safety. That can all be sorted out later.
And importantly, LSU and Ed Orgeron needed a public, head-to-head win over the Crimson Tide. Brooks had been slated to commit on his birthday in June, but it sounds like LSU closed to deal on his visit this weekend. He was also joined by Cal graduate transfer running back Tre Watson — more on him if any news develops.
