LSU dropped Game 2 of the regional 8-5 to Florida State in eleven innings, setting up a deceive Game 3 of the Tallahassee Super Regional.
Carley Hoover took the loss, surrendering three run, including two home runs in the top of the 11th to give the Seminoles the lead. Hoover, who started the game, had her struggles against the Florida State lineup. Although Hoover kept the Seminoles off the board for the most part, she did also allow a four-run inning in the fifth.
In extra’s the Tigers didn’t have many chances but their best chance came in the bottom of the tenth. Emily Griggs led off the inning with a walk, but then Amanda Doyle, LSU’s best hitter, made a poor sacrifice bunt attempt that resulting in a foul out. Later in the inning with two on and two outs, Shelbi Sunseri struck out to end the inning.
The highlight for the Tigers came in the bottom of the fifth with the Seminoles leading 5-1. The inning started with an Aliyah Andrews single, and then two batters later, Griggs would walk followed by Doyle. With the bases now loaded, Shemiah Sanchez would tie the game with a grand slam home run to left.
The decisive final game of this series will begin at approximately 9:30 pm tonight on ESPNU.
