LSU cornerback signee Derek Stingley, Jr. has been named Louisiana’s Mr. Football for 2018 by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association.
Stingley, a composite five-star recruit and the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2019, is already enrolled at LSU and went through practices with the team for the Fiesta Bowl. He’ll have an inside track on a starting job opposite the returning Kristian Fulton.
In his final two years at Dunham High School in Baton Rouge, Stingley intercepted 13 passes while allowing just one reception in coverage. On top of that, he returned 14 punts for touchdowns in his career.
According to 247 Sports, Stingley represents the seventh-highest rated prospect LSU has ever signed.
