The College Football Playoff committee ranked LSU No. 2 in its opening top 25 on Tuesday night, with Ohio State in at No. 1 and Alabama at No. 3 in advance of Saturday’s big game.

Penn State rounds out the top-four, with Clemson, Georgia, Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma and Florida filling out the rest of the top 10.

This doesn’t mean anything now, although if you wanted to put on a tin-foil hat, this gives the committee an out to keep Ohio State No. 1 until the playoff is seeded, and keep an LSU-Bama rematch from happening in the playoff’s first round, as the winner would move to No. 2 and the loser have a shot to move into the fourth spot.
