Arik Gilbert, the nation’s top tight end in the 2020 class, has signed with the Tigers. Calling Gilbert a rare gem would be an understatement. Not only is Gilbert the highest ranked player in LSU’s class according to the 247 composite rankings, he is the first five star tight end prospect since Isaac Nauta in 2016, and has a higher rating than both Nauta and OJ Howard. It is difficult seeing the Tigers land a prospect of Gilbert’s nature without this year’s offensive renaissance, in particular the larger roll for Thad Moss.

Gilbert is teammates with LSU recruit BJ Ojulari at Marietta. He was also the first tight end to be named Gatorade’s national player of the year, which featured a visit from Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan:
Here's the moment @arik_gilbert was surprised by @AtlantaFalcons' Matt Ryan with the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award.

Gilbert was genuinely surprised; he even said he was "a little bit star struck."
