Tigers No. 1 in College Football Playoff Standings

LSU will square off with fourth-ranked Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl.

NCAA Football: SEC Championship-Georgia vs Louisiana State Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The LSU Tigers, No. 1 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls, and the undefeated SEC Champions, are the top seed in the College Football Playoff.

They’ll meet the fourth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Peach Bowl, back in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, Dec. 28. Game time is still pending but looks like either 2 or 6 p.m. CST.

The Sooners held off Baylor in overtime in the Big 12 championship game Saturday afternoon, and were able to jump Utah to get into the top four when the Utes fell to Oregon in the Pac-12 title game Friday night. They sit at No. 4 in both polls, and sixth in the SP+ rankings. This marks Oklahoma’s fourth straight appearance in the playoff.

It is LSU’s first appearance.

Pretty damn exciting news, and validation for the season the Tigers had, beating a record five teams ranked in the top-10 in the major polls, and putting together the greatest offensive year in SEC history.
