LSU confirmed multiple media reports on Monday that freshman defensive lineman Davin Cotton has entered the oft-discussed NCAA Transfer Portal.
Basically, this amounts to a public declaration that Cotton is considering transferring to another program, and now has availability to discuss that with other teams. He is of course, free to remove his name as well. LSU also cannot restrict Cotton’s destinations.
Cotton saw action in two games in 2018 and picked up three tackles, but redshirted. He would have likely been in line for an increased rotational role in 2019 and on track to compete for a starting spot in 2020, and with a thin recruiting haul on the line, it’s safe to speculate this is not a case of LSU running Cotton off. He was a four-star prospect in 2018 out of Evangel Christian in Shreveport.
No idea what the issue is here, but with a discussion with a source and some educated guessing, I would imagine it’s some sort of personal issue. And I would also expect LSU to try and recruit him to stay.
More on this as it develops.
