The Tigers road to Minneapolis is set.
LSU earned a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament’s East Regional. The Tigers opening game will be against the Yale Bulldogs Thursday in Jacksonville. The game will tipoff at 11:40am CT and air on TruTV.
Yale (22-7) won both the Ivy League regular season title and the league’s tournament title. LSU and Yale have only played once, a game back in 1969 that the Bulldogs won 97-94.
As a whole, the Tigers are the No. 11 overall seed in the tournament. LSU is grouped with Duke, the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed. If the Tigers are to make it into the second weekend, they’d play in Washington D.C. The last time LSU played a basketball game in Jacksonville was 2006, which is, of course, the last time the Tigers reached the Final Four.
If the Tigers are to advance to the Round of 32, they would play either the No. 6 seed Maryland Terrapins or whoever wins the play-in game between the Belmont Bruins and Temple Owls. The Belmont-Temple winner is East Region’s 11-seed.
The other East Regional games are as follows:
- No. 1 Duke vs. No. 16 NC Central/North Dakota State
- No. 8 VCU vs. No. 9 UCF
- No. 5 Mississippi State vs. No. 12 Liberty
- No. 4 Virginia Tech vs. No. 13 Saint Louis
- No. 7 Louisville vs. No. 8 Minnesota
- No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 15 Bradley
