Rumorology: the Second Round

Few Cinderellas, but the top seeds still seem like the favorites in our quest to crown college football’s craziest message board rumor.

Our quest to crown the sport’s craziest message board rumor has moved into the second round. Not much fanfare really — a few small upsets, but chalk has ruled the day and I suspect that will continue throughout the remainder.

Our top seeds are all pretty tough to beat here.

But that is why they play the games, is it not?

So let’s move into round two — we’ll just drop our polls right here for all eight matchups, voting to run until Sunday.

Stranger Than Fiction

1. Bobby Petrino’s Motorcycle Wreck vs. 4. Mike Price’s Destiny

There’s a saying about something being undefeated, and it seems like it was the real victor in both of these two controversies.

Especially when you consider that Petrino’s riding partner (phrasing) still went back to her finance — NOW HUSBAND.

3. Phil Fulmer’s Lawsuit vs. 7. Las Cronicas Locas de Boss Hawg

Both of these involve legal filings of some kind, and coaches run out of destinations. Whether you’d rather be run out of Birmingham or Fayetteville, well...that’s up to you.

Rumor Roulette

1. 1/9/12 vs. 5. Brodie Croyle’s “Accident”

Despite the rumors, only one of these really involve death. At least from a figurative standpoint.

2. Joey Freshwater vs. 7. “Those Assholes with numbers on their helmets...”

Both of these involve Alabama, and both probably pissed off Nick Saban. But for very different reasons.

Recruiting

1. As the Plains Burn vs. 4. Noel Ellis’ Uncle

I hate to take a side but we all know the one of these that was actually collected into a full-blown document is the winner here.

2. Operation Red Dog vs. 6. Ratphuc Hobley

Again, Auburn has to take the taco here, right?

Grumors

1. Gruden to UT vs. 4. Parcells to Alabama

The Grumors will never die. They will almost certainly outlive the Big Tuna.

2. Saban to Texas 6. Jack del Rio to LSU

I’m sure there are fans here that will always hold on to these two rumors. Only one of those actually makes sense, though.
